A little something about me
Greetings! My name is Tim and I am the driving force behind Full Throttle Start-Up. I started this site when I realized, as I was searching for more business ideas, that there just weren’t many good resources to help find a good business to start from home.
Now don’t get me wrong, there are many sites to help you start an “online” business but when it comes to ideas for “service-based” or brick-and-mortar type businesses to start, the choices are limited.
Now throughout my life, I have always had the bug to own my own business. My parents owned their own Garden Center and lawn and landscape company and I grew up in that environment of working hard every day, living through great years of lots of business and even some thin years of not as much. Their business grew to a point where they had 16 employees at its peak and for a while, the local weekend radio garden show host would show up and answer questions from our customers.
It was a great way to grow up but by the time I was 16 the business had begun to shrink. Some great employees left to go on with their own careers, two of which started their own lawn care companies. Greater competition in the area and some by-law changes to the property among other things all played a role in its eventual demise by the time I was in my late twenties.
It was sad to see a business that my family had worked so hard to create eventually fail. Sad, but I learned a lot about small business while growing up in it, and looking back helps to see when improvements can be made.
A Fresh Start
Why am I telling you all this? Well, it’s about building a relationship with you. To demonstrate that in business as in life there are many ups and downs. Our lives may take many turns as we go through it but if we stick with it we will find our passion.
My journey has brought clarity to me. Through all the jobs and businesses that I have been involved with, I have come to the realization that the aspect I most enjoy is the creative process. Researching, sourcing out equipment and suppliers, promoting and organizing a company. Those are the parts of a small business I get excited about.
I have also helped several friends start their own businesses and worked tirelessly to help them get established. At the time, I thought I was just helping them out. But what I was actually doing was doing what I do best… Start a small business!
It is my hope with Full Throttle Start-Up that you will be able to get new ideas for your very own small business. You can start with our Business Ideas section to get the creative juices flowing and then move on to other sections as you prepare to start your business.
Once your business is up and running you want to get found by potential customers. The best way to do that is with Google My Business. Who better to get a free business listing than Google themselves?
